  • Jacob Dean is the Founder & Managing Partner of the Firm. His career has given him a unique perspective on the legal and business challenges his clients face. He began in-house at a Fortune 100 company, working in its corporate tax department and gaining firsthand insight into how businesses make decisions and manage risk.

    He later moved his family to the Washington, D.C. area, where he clerked for a judge on the U.S. Tax Court and worked at a tax boutique while earning his LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University. Those experiences deepened his understanding of complex tax issues and sharpened his ability to analyze problems from multiple angles.

    After returning to private practice, Jacob served as both an associate and partner at a regional law firm before returning to an in-house role with a commercial real estate development company. His experience inside businesses and law firms gave him a broader perspective on how legal advice affects day-to-day operations, strategic planning, and business growth.

    After moving to Idaho, Jacob founded the firm with a simple goal: to provide legal counsel that is responsive, practical, and genuinely aligned with the needs of its clients. While the firm has grown, that mission remains the same.

    Jacob started his career in-house at a Fortune 100 company, where he worked in the corporate tax department. Following that experience, he moved his family to the Washington, DC area. There he clerked for a judge on the U.S. Tax Court and at a D.C.-based tax boutique. During that time, he attended Georgetown University and obtained an LL.M. in tax law.

    Following his time in D.C., he worked as an associate and partner at a regional law firm. He then worked in-house for a commercial real estate development firm. Following a move to Idaho, he launched Dean Business & Tax Law to do things differently and better. But the ultimate goal remains — to provide clients with a top-tier legal service.

    We believe legal counsel should provide solutions, not obstacles. As we often tell our clients, we'll know the answer, find the answer, or connect you with someone who does. We provide responsive, white-glove service to businesses throughout Idaho, Ohio, and Utah.

    We are intentionally selective about the clients we serve. Rather than operating a high-volume practice, we focus on building lasting relationships with business owners whose values and goals align with ours. This allows us to provide the attention our clients deserve.

    When Jacob founded the firm, his vision was to create a different kind of law practice. One where attorneys function as part of the client’s team rather than outside advisors. That approach continues to guide how we choose clients and how we practice law.

    We do not have a volume practice. Meaning, we look carefully to partner with clients whose vision and values align with ours. And we seek to deliver those clients exceptional service. We are not, and do not seek to be, everyone’s attorney. Trying to juggle too many clients can lead to poor service, in our experience. Rather, we value every client and seek to build a long-term, valuable relationship.

    We pride ourselves in developing meaningful relationships with clients and understanding the needs of their personal and professional lives. Jacob started the firm with an eye towards providing exceptional service to his clients. And to do so, he recognized the need meet business owners where they were. As our team has grown, the firm retains the fundamental belief that legal counsel – whether for an individual or business – should be a collaborative member of the team. We should make our clients’ lives easier, not harder.

  • We get to know our clients personally, and we take time to understand their businesses in detail. They are not passed between teams or treated as file numbers. We stay closely involved so our advice reflects both the legal issue and the broader context of each client’s business.

    We use flat-fee and subscription-based arrangements so clients can engage with us without hesitation or uncertainty about cost. That structure removes friction from communication and allows issues to be addressed early, before they become larger problems.
